About Breast Cancer Survivors

Improving the Chances of Surviving Breast Cancer

Screening is the single most important step you can take to improve your chances of surviving breast cancer. Early detection radically improves your chances, and experts stress screening beyond anything else. If you are diagnosed, work with your doctor. Commit yourself entirely to the treatment plan you and your doctor agree on. Keep a positive attitude. Keep your weight in check - women who are overweight or who gain weight during treatment have increased recurrence and mortality. Exercising, even just a few hours each week, has been shown to increase survival rates during treatment. Keeping your weight down and exercising will also improve your odds against heart disease, which kills more women in the U.S. than breast cancer.
