About Breast Cancer Survivors
Life After Breast Cancer
Most survivors of breast cancer lead normal, happy lives. But breast cancer is a life-changing experience.
Since there is no "cure" for breast cancer, survivors must come to terms with the ever-present risk that cancer will return.
There may also be changes to your body as a result of the cancer or treatment. Losing a breast to mastectory or hair to
chemotherapy are losses that you will grieve for, and for some women, the recovery process is lifelong. As a survivor,
you will need to be extra diligent about getting regular checkups, doing monthly breast self-exams, and maintaining a
healthy lifestyle. Diet, exercise and eliminating smoking and alcohol are even more important to you than to the average women.
For some women, these will be significant changes. Many women handle these changes well and look forward with renewed hope and
purpose in their lives. Breast cancer may change your life, but it's still life. Go out and live it.
