The Effect of Hormone Replacement Therapy on Breast Cancer Risk
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a combination of hormones, usually estrogen and progesterone, that's prescribed to ease uncomfortable symptoms of menopause and help prevent osteoporosis. If you're experiencing hot flashes and night sweats related to menopause, HRT may have been suggested to you. Research has shown a link between long-term use of HRT and an increase in the risk of breast cancer. HRT has also been linked to an increased risk of dying from breast cancer. Talk to your doctor about the correlation if you are currently on HRT or have been within the past five years. Your doctor will have the most current information on known risks for your particular situation.
