About Stage I Breast Cancer
Breast cancers are divided into two types: non-invasive, meaning no cancer cells have invaded normal tissue; and invasive, meaning breast cancer cells or a tumor have invaded the adjacent tissue. Stage I breast cancer is an early form, and is the first of the invasive stages. A Stage I tumor is less than two centimeters wide, has not spread and is not affecting the lymph nodes. Treatment for Stage I cancer will usually include surgical removal of the tumor and the underarm lymph nodes, followed by radiation therapy to the affected breast.
