Early vs. Advanced Breast Cancer
The terms 'early' and 'advanced' describe how far cancer has progressed. They don't indicate the age at which the cancer was found to be present. Cancers that are detected early are usually limited to a single tumor or area of the breast. They're much easier to treat because a surgery will usually remove all the cancerous areas. Any remaining cancer cells are typically eradicated with radiation therapy. Advanced breast cancer has a chance to spread throughout the breast and into other areas of the body. It's not always possible to eliminate advanced-stage cancer with surgery alone. Treatment can be more difficult, but the prognosis can still be optimistic. Try to find a support group where you can talk to survivors who had your stage of breast cancer.
