The Process of Metastasis
Cancer cells shed by a tumor in the breast are easily spread to the lymph or cardiovascular system because they're in such close proximity to blood and lymph vessels. Once the cells get into the lymph or cardiovascular system, they pretty much have free reign throughout the body. The cells find new homes in other tissues, colonize them and cause widespread cancer throughout the body. To prevent this, the cancer must be identified and removed before it has the chance to shed cells. The best way to do this is through regular screening. Taking the time to be screened could very well save your life.
