Metastasis describes the spread of cancer from where it started to other parts of the body. Breast cancer metastasis occurs when a cells from a tumor in your breast find their way to other parts of the body. Breast cancer that has begun to metastasize can spread quickly and become very difficult to manage and treat. Most, if not all, deaths from breast cancer are due to cancer that has metastasized. Some cancer types metastasize more quickly than others. Early detection can help keep breast cancer contained in the breast, where it's easier to treat. Early detection and treatment is the best defense.
